Precaution and abortion

I was watching the news the other day and heard a disturbing report that abortion rates have increased dramatically. Most of the women who went for abortions are educated, working females whom I'm sure are well acquainted with such a procedure called contraception.

I can't help but wonder... what's happening to us? Wasn't the primary purpose of an education to impart knowledge so that we can invent technology to make life easier, to save lives and preserve humanity? Why then are 'educated' people choosing to abort rather than take precautions?

Is the killing of an innocent life, the destruction of your own flesh and blood more convenient and a more viable option than using a contraceptive? Where is the humanity that people fight so hard to preserve? What is the worth of life that scientists are working so diligently to save? Where is the compassion and sense of responsibility that is supposed to come with knowledge?

One can only say that education has failed to do it's part if all it achieved is produce cold blooded murderers who make use of such knowledge to aid them in their selfish cause.
